Roy Fitzgerald, known professionally as Rock Hudson, is an actor. He is the boyfriend of Archie Coleman.

Hudson is a young unknown from small-town Illinois trying to make his way in the world, and beginning to understand who he really is. He is gay and first meets Archie when he goes to "Dreamland" (aka hiring Archie as a male prostitute). They hit it off and end up dating.

Archie Coleman is a screenwriter who wrote Meg (originally titled Peg) and Dreamland.

Archie grew up in Memphis, Tennessee before moving to California to pursue his dream to become a screenwriter.

Archie is giving blow jobs for money at a location pornography theater when Jack Castello points a gun at him and pretends to arrest him.

Archie explains that he moved to Hollywood to be a screenplay writer, but that studios don't want to contract black men. He said he likes giving blow jobs to men and that it's something he'd do anyway, so might as well get paid for it.

Jack admits he's not a cop but really an actor. He takes Archie to go meet Ernie to work as a male gigalo. Archie negotiates his pay and accepts the new job, agreeing to take on the male clients so that Jack doesn't have to.

Archie writes the screenplay, Peg (which later gets changed to Meg). Director, Raymond Ainsley, reads the play and loves it. He decides to make it into a movie, which ends up winning the Oscar for Best Picture.
